In late June, in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOI) of Ukraine, IOM organized an Observatory Mechanism (OM) monitoring visit to the MOI-administered Migrant Accommodation Center (MAC) inZhuravychi, Volyn Region from June 24-25. The OM is a tool for conducting joint assessments of standards compliance and quality control at the MACs and Temporary Holding Facilities (THF) for irregular migrants in Ukraine. Two ECA alumni from nearby Lutsk, Vitaliy Lipich (UGRAD 2003-2004) and Iuliia Rogach (UGRAD 2007-2008), volunteered to visit the center and assist with the donation. The alumni met with the migrants and presented the clothing as the representatives of the MOI, State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Ukraine, State Committee on Nationalities and Religions (SCNR), and Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) monitored accommodation conditions and discussed findings with the MAC's administration. More than twenty-five bags (approximately 100 kg) of clothing contributed by IREX staff and alumni, multinational staff members of NGOs, international organizations, Kyiv-based embassies and the IOM were delivered to the Volyn MAC and distributed amongst the accommodated migrants. |
