The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) provides opportunities for current first-, second-, and third-year undergraduate students to spend one academic year of non-degree study in a US university or community college.

Muskie

The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program (Muskie) provides opportunities for Master’s level study in the United States.

University Administration Support Program (UASP)

The International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) coordinates a competition for the University Administration Support Program (UASP) supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

TEA

The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, and implemented by IREX, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization. TEA will provide secondary school teachers from Europe and Eurasia, East Asia and the Pacific, the Near East, South and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States .

Educational Testing

The IBT versions of the TOEFL, GRE, USMLE, PMI, ICMA and other tests are offered at the Educational Testing Center.

Global Libraries

Global Libraries: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has selected IREX to plan for a program to provide public access to computers and Internet in Ukraine’s public libraries.

Internet

Addressing a broad shortage of the free flow of information, the Internet Access and Training Program (IATP) is a versatile civil society-centered program that spurs community development by using access to the Internet as a tool for linking citizens to the outside world and by using information and communications technology (ICT) as a pillar to support local initiative.

UMPP

The Ukrainian Media Partnership Program (UMPP) creates and fosters long-term relationships between selected U.S. media outlets and Ukrainian media outlets. UMPP works with independent print, radio and TV media sectors in Ukraine. UMPP was launched in 2002 and funded by the Public Affairs Section, US Embassy in Ukraine.

IREX works to strengthen the current legal status of independent media, improve the professional journalism and business skills of media owners and employees through training and on-site consultations, and increase the resources and services available to independent media through indigenous media associations. IREX has provided support to independent journalists in Ukraine since 1995 through conducting trainings and education, media monitoring, research and supporting media associations.

As part of her visit to Ukraine, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at Kyiv-Polytechnic Institute to a crowd of 300 young leaders and activists on July 2, 2010.

09.07 ECA Alumni Sharpen Time Management Skills

The workshop was conducted by Svitlana Buko, a professional trainer with extensive experience in project management, team leadership, quantitative research and social planning in Ukraine, Russia and the U.S. The goals for the training were to: demonstrate different challenges of time management, discuss and practice key steps of successful planning strategy development, and review classical and innovative planning tools including operative and strategic planning.

03.06 “Invisible Light” Project Brings New Opportunities to People with Visual Impairments

While at the University of Nebraska-Kearny, Anna Tsyrdia (UGRAD 2008-2009), volunteered at the Kearny public library, where she was impressed by the facilities and special services provided for disabled people. Soon after Anna returned to Donetsk, Ukraine, in summer, 2009, she met Larysa Sayevych, the head of the Donetsk Center for the Visually Impaired, and Liudmyla Gusleva, the chairman of Donetsk City Organization for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and realized that there was an opportunity to improve assistance to disabled people in Donetsk.

01.06 CFA Ukraine, the Ukrainian Society of Investment Professionals, to Lead the Way for Ethical Investment in Ukraine

Having worked for several different Ukrainian investment companies, Andriy Klymchuk (Muskie 2003) was very familiar with the investment climate in Ukraine. Although there was significant money to be made by investment companies, there was often little regard for transparency and honesty in the way that the deals were concluded and honored. Convinced that this behavior was detrimental to future investment and economic development in Ukraine, Mr. Klymchuk and other Muskie alumni began working on setting up CFA Ukraine, the Ukrainian Society of Investment Professionals, which is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Association.
